Becca Hutton, 19, is a sophomore justice studies major at Montclair State. Hutton has been a Wiccan since 2011. She practices to Áine of Knockaine, a Celtic deity over the sun, love and fertility; the Norse god Loki, the Valkarie and the Morrigan, who is the chief God.
“You can practice to whoever you wish in whatever order, but more often than not Wiccas will practice to one dependent on their wishes and intentions,” Hutton said.
In the past few weeks, Hutton has performed a planetary reading with tarot cards and a Rune Casting for her roommate, Kate Poisler. She also cleansed her Rune Stones with a Blessing Ceremony.
When reading the cards and stones to Poisler, Hutton would sometimes put stones in the center. Particularly with the tarot cards, the addition of stones adds the meaning or intent of the stones to the reading.
“So if your looking for love and use rose quartz the spreads meaning is for relationships and love,” said Hutton.
The palmistry hand she uses in some of her rituals is a personal Wicca item. She said she uses it to keep her jewelry, which are “offerings” separate from everyday items, like her Odin raven necklaces.
“It connects me to my alter at home, my coven and my deities without me needing to keep a massive alter,” said Hutton. “It helps with divination since it will act like a channel.”
